Newquay’s top relaxation spaces (from yoga to saunas)

by Jeffa

Yoga

One of the most common questions we’re asked on our surf courses is “Where can I go to a yoga class? I really need a good roll around on a mat from all this surfing.” Our surf sessions include thorough warmups with a mix of stretching and mobilisation. However, we appreciate that a yoga practice after a beach day is the perfect remedy to stretch out those paddle muscles and unwind your mind. Find out the best spots for yoga in Newquay below.

The Zen Den

An atmospheric Yurt, located on the Watergate Bay cliffs, is where you might find yourself moving through a vinyasa flow if you book a class at the Zen Den. The owner Jodie (who is an epic surfer) has curated a schedule of classes hosted by a range of experienced teachers to cater for all levels and tastes. Her website provides an easy booking system if you would like to secure a mat easily and drop in for a class.

Best for: The location, easy to book online, variety of workshops

Location: Watergate Bay (You’ll see the beautiful Yurt from the road)

Ocean Flow Yoga

Ocean flow is one of the longest standing yoga studios in Newquay, run by Jen and Tom, who have over 40 years experience practicing yoga between them. Their studio offers a range of easily bookable classes, from slow flow to Hot yoga classes. If you’re looking to book yoga ahead of your trip, check out their events page as they regularly hold outdoor yoga classes and “silent disco” yoga.

Best for: Accessible from South fistral, Hot Yoga, easy to book online

Location: Pentire Avenue, Newquay (South fistral)

Yoga Garden

Issey’s studio, The Yoga Garden, offers it’s yogis a light quiet space within which to practice. Located in the centre of town, off the beaten track from the hustle and bustle, it’s suits clients who may be staying locally, not wishing to drive. Like the other mentioned studios, it’s easy to book with regular classes you can attend that fit around your surf course with us. (We recommend those juicy evening classes to wind down after a day outside).

Best for: Central location, Yin Yoga classes, small class size

Location: Wesley Yard, Newquay

Saunas

The sauna scene in Newquay has exploded this summer and we’re very excited about it! Heat exposure has been proven to give a myriad of health benefits including improved cardiovascular health, body detoxification and improved stress management and relaxation. Although your body will be absorbing the benefits of water immersion, an evening sauna might just be the ticket you need to get that additional “feel good” boost. Here are our three top saunas experiences in Newquay.

The Sauna Society

Nestled into the cliffs of Watergate Bay (next to the Zen Den), The Sauna Society offers a Finnish sauna culture experience embodying health, community and relaxation. There are the options to book onto the daily communal saunas or get a group together to make a private booking at a time that suits you. The sauna is designed for eight individuals to share, creating an intimate but not overwhelming atmosphere. If you’re after an authentic sauna experience by the sea look no further.

Best for: Community, Sea Views, Getaway from Newquay

Location: Watergate Bay (the Top field car park next to the Zen Den)

Water and Stone Wild Spa

Whenever we indulge in the Water and Stone Wild Spa we’re amazed by how peaceful this little spot is despite being situated just off the Newquay high street. Being easily accessible, W+S offers the opportunity to tap out of the Newquay summer bustle and transition to a slower pace of being. As well as saunas, you can try in cold therapy with the provision of ice baths and cold plunge pools, with the cold exposure encouraging you to connect with your breath and enter a calming meditative state. Easy to book online, there’s also the spa + pizza deal, with Sourdough deliciousness provided by Dough Selecta who are just next door.

Best for: Sauna, Hot tubs, Cold water immersion

Location: The Crescent, Newquay

Olla Hiki Mobile Sauna

We didn’t know there was such a thing as a mobile sauna until Olla Hiki stepped onto the scene. Providing a welcoming and authentic experience, you can enjoy a sauna at some of the most beautiful locations in Cornwall. For summer 2022, they’re located at the stunning beautiful Bedruthan Steps campsite, perfect for those of you situated on the north side of Newquay and for those on our Swim Sistas retreats!

Best for: Getaway, warm and welcoming, Swim Sistas clients

Location: Olla Hiki is always on the move so check Sarah’s website to find out where she is during your stay. You can guarantee it will be somewhere beautiful.

So there you have it, a selection of relaxation ideas to compliment your surf getaway to Cornwall. Don’t hesitate to contact us with questions if you’re looking to book one of these alongside our courses.
