1.0 Galicia

There are still a few places in Europe that feel like surfing’s best-kept secrets.

Galicia is one of them.

Tucked away in the wild north-west corner of Spain, Galicia remains largely overlooked. While crowds flock to better-known destinations, this rugged Atlantic coastline quietly delivers everything we dream about: consistent swell, quiet line-ups, beautiful sand-bottom beaches and rolling hills of pine forests. Galicia feels like stepping back in time into old-school surf adventures.

For three years running we’ve returned to Galicia in September, drawn back by its unique combination of reliable waves, stunning natural beauty and a slower pace of life. Here, we wake to the sound of the rooster and walk through the forest trail out onto rugged cliff tops.

If you’ve ever wanted to experience a surf destination before the secret gets out, this is your chance. Join us for a week of waves, glorious Galician cuisine, Atlantic sunsets and the blend of surf adventure and peaceful moments.

What to Expect

For one week we’ll immerse ourselves in a remote corner of Atlantic Europe where life moves to the rhythm of the tides and the weather. Our home is a tiny Galician village surrounded by forest, farmland and wild coastline.

Days begin with coffee, a hearty breakfast and the sound of the cows heading out to pasture. From there we’ll spend our time finding the best waves available, aiming to surf twice daily with our Surf Sistas coaching team and local guide. Whether that means long peeling waves at our local beach or a road trip to another stretch of coastline, every day is built around finding the right waves for your progression.

Between sessions you’ll have time to slow down. Read by the pool, wander the forest paths and beach walks and unwind with our yoga sessions.

The adventure doesn’t stop at the waves. When we are not surfing we’ll be exploring the rocky peninsulas and coast paths of continental Europe’s most westerly edge. There’s a reason the Roman’s thought this region was world’s end! In between surf sessions there is plenty of time for us to relax by the heated pool, wander in the forest, find a cosy nook to read, or seek the perfect sunset watching spot.

SURFING

Galicia is one of Europe’s most underrated surf regions.

The coastline is exposed to consistent Atlantic swell and shaped by countless bays, beaches and headlands, creating an incredible variety of waves within a relatively small area. From long sandy beaches with multiple peaks to sheltered coves that come alive on larger swells, we have good chances of finding a wave!

Our local beach at Praia de Nemiña is a dream setting for progression. Stretching for over a kilometre between dramatic cliffs and traditional Galician villages, it offers space, consistency and room to spread out. The quality sandbanks and multiple peaks mean we can often find waves suited to different abilities without feeling crowded.

September is one of our favourite times to be here. Summer warmth lingers, Atlantic swell becomes increasingly reliable and the beaches remain refreshingly quiet. While many European surf destinations are becoming busier every year, Galicia still feels wonderfully undiscovered.

EATING

Food is a huge part of the experience in Galicia.

Each day we’ll enjoy generous home-cooked meals inspired by the region’s rich culinary traditions. Much of the produce is sourced locally and prepared by our local chef Celia, whose cooking has become one of the highlights of the trip.

Her tortilla is probably the best one we’ve ever tasted and her desserts are legendary.Expect nourishing breakfasts before surf, hearty lunches after long sessions in the water and delicious evening meals shared around the table with like minded Surf Sistas.
